How to Express Your Essence Through Your Roof

Summer Storm Blow Through Your Town? 4 Ways To Identify Roof Damage

If you just endured a summer storm, complete with torrential rain and hail, it's time to assess the damage of your roof. You might not realize this, but those summer storms can wreak havoc on your roof. Luckily, you don't need to climb on your roof to assess the damage. All you need to do is follow the simple steps described below.

Check Out the Neighborhood

After a severe summer storm, one of the first things you should do is check out the neighboring houses. It can be easier to see damage from across the street, especially if you live in a multi-story home. Look out your windows, and assess the roofs of your neighbors' homes. If you can see indentations in their roofs, or you notice patches where the shingles have been damaged, chances are good that your roof has endured the same damage. If you're on good terms with your neighbors, ask them to look at your roof from their angle. They can help identify issues that you might not be able to see.

Look for Granules

Torrential rain and hail can wash the granules right off your roof. Once the storm has passed, start looking around your yard for signs of asphalt granule loss. Look inside your rain gutters first. That's the first place they'll gather once they've been washed off your roof. Next, walk around your home and take a look at the ground around the foundation. If you have a collection of asphalt granules on the ground, or in the rain gutters, chances are good that your roof was damaged during the storm.

Bring Out the Binoculars

Once you've assessed the neighborhood, and checked for granule loss, it will be time to get a closer look at your roof. You still don't need to climb on it. All you need to do is grab your binoculars. Use your binoculars to get a closer look at the condition of your roof and shingles. Be sure to walk all the way around your yard, so that you can view the entire roof. Look for dents, torn shingles, or other signs of damage. Make note of anything you see.

Request an Inspection

If you notice any problems with your roof, you'll need to request an inspection. You can talk with a professional, like Roof-Rite Roofing, Inc, for more information.  Your roofing company will able to assess the damage done to your roof and identify issues that you might have missed. For best protection, it's a good idea to follow these steps after each summer storm.

About Me

How to Express Your Essence Through Your Roof

A couple of years after moving into my first home, I decided I needed a new roof. When I told the roofer that I wanted to express my essence, he asked if I wanted shingles or metal. However, I knew the idea could go deeper than that. For example, gardeners can put plants on their roofs, fashion gurus can match their roof to their home, those who crave extra space can make a roof patio, you can take cues from your favorite country, and there are thousands of other ways to express your essence. If this idea piques your interest, get comfortable and start reading. The posts in this blog are designed to inform you and hopefully guide you toward the perfect roof for you, your personality, your home and your family. My name is Kat. Thanks for reading!
